Facebook launches verified accounts

A new Facebook feature has been launched: Verified Pages. This is very similar to verified accounts on Twitter, which display a small blue tick, next to the user’s name.

Facebook pages will now display a small blue check mark besides their owner’s name on the social network.  The tick will also appear next to the user’s name in search results, as well as anywhere else it appears on Facebook.

Just like with Twitter accounts, Facebook’s verified status wont be available to everyone. Verified accounts will be available for public figures with large audiences, celebrities, government officials, popular brands and some journalists.

The new verified accounts went live on the social networking site yesterday.
