Yes you CAN have it all: How to be successful AND happy

Most people spend their life searching for one thing: happiness. And unfortunately a lot of people don’t find it. There are lots of reasons why someone may not find their hidden treasure, but here’s one obvious reason: they do what everyone else does.

The majority of people will copy social norms in order to find happiness: buy a house, have kids, get a good job. But the world is a hugely competitive one: and you need to step out of your comfort zone to find the path that is perfect for you.

Here’s how to be successful and happy in 6 simple steps:

1. Have real friendships

The only way to find real opportunities and friendships is to get out into the big wide world. Lots of people build online relationships and hide behind their computer screens, but the only way to build true relationships is on a one to one basis.

2. Improve yourself

Put yourself in different and new situations. You’ll build new skills and expertise by jumping out of your comfort zone. You’ll find new opportunities in places you never thought to look and make new friends, generating internal happiness.

3. Calm down

We spend the majority of our lives making decisions and looking at the clock. But we rarely take time out to listen to our instincts. If we don’t know the answer to the problem, we turn to someone else, or Google. Trust your gut, as that’s where the best answers lie.

4. Find a great job

This may seem easier said than done, but all you need is a great company, with a great leader. Learn from those who are more accomplished and more experienced than you. Help the company to grow and bring something new to the party. By working together, you and your company will find new opportunities.

5. Do one thing at a time

Pick one thing that you’d like to do, and get it done. Don’t get distracted by social media and other outlets. By accomplishing a task you’ll feel a sense of pride and control, and it’ll build your confidence for future tasks. Even if you fail, you’ll become more resilient, and you’ll learn from your mistakes.

6. Don’t be too hard on yourself

It’s easy to reprimand yourself when something doesn’t go right, but take a step back and stop judging yourself. Let go of your expectations and you’ll learn that just being yourself is enough. And that’s when you’ll find success and happiness.
